Construction Work Parties

Generally, there are construction work parties on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.  Please check below to find out what is going on in the weeks to come.  All new volunteers must attend an orientation prior to signing up for a construction work party!

Please note that volunteers must be 16 years of age to be on the worksite. Sixteen- and 17-year-olds may not use power tools or be more than ten feet off the ground. Six- to 15-year-olds may only participate when there are no power tools or ladders being used that day, and they must be accompanied by a parent.

To sign up for a work party day please contact our volunteer coordinator at  or 360-715-9170.

Sumas:

The other side of our Sumas duplex still has work to be done. Work parties will be coming up soon.

Ferndale:

Land has been purchased in Ferndale!  We hope to begin a Women Build home there in September, 2010. We will be hosting a community meeting about the build on Saturday, September 18 at 10 a.m. in Ferndale.  Individuals and women's groups interested in getting involved should plan to attend to learn more or sign up for specific work party days.  Please RSVP to Talia Haywood, resource development coordinator, at talia.haywood@hfhwhatcom.org or call (360)715-9170.

We will be starting an Apostle's Build in Ferndale soon thereafter.  We are currently recruiting groups that would like to partner with us to get these projects done!

Women Build:

Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program that encourages women to make a difference by building homes and communities. Women Builds provide an environment in which women can feel comfortable learning construction skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. Of course, none of that can happen without the affiliates we work with - Habitat affiliates that nurture, recruit and train women to build and maintain decent, healthy and affordable homes.  If your local women’s group would like to learn more about getting involved please contact the volunteer coordinator at 360-175-9170 or volunteer@hfhwhatcom.org.

Apostles' Build:

Apostles' Build is also a theme build through Habitat for Humanity International.  Twelve local churches join together for collaborative house building for this theme build. Each apostle church contributes one-twelfth of the house cost and one-twelfth of the volunteers. This model has proven successful for rural affiliates when local churches are too small or cash-poor to fully sponsor a house on their own.  If your Whatcom County church is interested in getting involved please contact the volunteer coordinator at 360-715-9170 or volunteer@hfhwhatcom.org.
